1. 한국에 오게 된 계기는 무엇입니까?

Joongbu University wanted to set up a classroom course addressing UN peacekeeping operations and Prof. Langholtz, the director of the UNITAR POCI programme, recommended me to conduct the course.

중부대학교가 UN 평화 유지 프로그램 유치를 원했고, UNITAR POCI 프로그램의 디렉터인 랑홀 교수님의 추천으로 이곳 중부에서 코스를 교육하게 되었습니다.

2. 한국 생활을 하면서 즐거웠던 에피소드나, 행복했던 순간은 언제였는지를 말씀해 주세요.

The first day I arrived, I tried to eat Kimchi with chopsticks. I did not really succeed until Mr Lee from the administration helped me out. Of course, the happiest moment was when I met my Korean wife.

한국에 도착한 첫날, 젓가락으로 김치를 먹으려 했었습니다. Mr. Lee가 도와주시기 전까진 성공하지 못했었죠. 물론, 가장 행복했던 순간은 제 한국인 아내를 만났을 때였습니다.

3. 한국에 대해 어떻게 생각하십니까?

Korean people are in general very kind. In particular, I’m impressed how Korea managed to build up its country after the Korean War. Life in Korea is often difficult, but my wife and her family are a great support.

한국 사람들은 대체적으로 친절합니다. 특히, 저는 한국이 한국전쟁 이후 한국을 재건한 것에 대해 강한 인상을 받았습니다. 한국에서의 생활은 종종 힘든 점이 있긴 하지만, 저의 아내와 아내의 가족이 큰 힘이 됩니다.

I like reading, traveling and playing table-tennis with my club mates at the Sky club in Daejon.

책 읽는 것을 좋아하고, 여행을 좋아하며, 대전에 있는 스카이 탁구 클럽의 멤버들과 탁구를 칩니다.

5. 중부대학교의 UNITAR POCI프로그램에 대해 어떻게 생각하십니까?

I wish we could attract more students. The students attending the course in December were excellent and came from four different continents.

이 프로그램이 좀 더 많은 학생을 유치 할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 지난 12월 코스에 참여했던 학생들은 4개의 다른 대륙으로부터 온 매우 우수한 인재들이었습니다.

6. 중부대학교의 UNITAR POCI프로그램에 대해서 간단히 소개좀 해주세요.

Joongbu University will organize two UNITAR POCI classroom courses in Korea, from 5th to 9th September 2005 and from 16th to 20th January 2006. The course, UN Peace Operations in the New Millennium is recognised by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research Programme of Correspondence Instruction in Peacekeeping Operations (UNITAR POCI).

중부대학교에서는 2005년 9월 5일부터 9일까지 그리고 2006년 1월 16일부터 20일까지 2번의 국제연합(UN) 평화활동 교육프로그램(UNITAR POCI) 강좌를 개최할 예정입니다. 새 천년 유엔평화활동과정은 평화유지활동을 위한 통신교육인 UNITAR(UN교육훈련기관) 프로그램에 의해서 인정받는 과정입니다.

The expected learning outcomes for the UNITAR POCI course participants are to improve the knowledge level of participants in diverse aspects of peace operations. Students will not only gain a foundation of the history, the evolution and the future challenges of UN peacekeeping but also learn about the relevance of the rule of law in UN peace operations. The course is organized and taught by Prof Boris Kondoch.

UNITAR POCI 과정 참가자들에게 기대되는 교육성과는 평화 유지 교육의 다양한 상황에 대하여 참가자들의 이해 폭을 넓혀주는 것입니다. 참가자들은 유엔 평화 유지의 역사적 배경, 발전, 미래의 과제뿐만 아니라 관련된 법칙에 대해서도 배울 수 있습니다. 이 과정은 Boris Kondoch 교수에 의해 강의가 진행됩니다.

7. 중부대학교에 하고 싶은 말이 있다면 말씀해 주십시오.

It would be better to run a master programme on the United Nations instead of having a course for only a short period. Students from Korea and other countries would earn a degree and Joongbu University would become a better known place.

짧은 기간의 평화 유지 교육 코스를 진행하는 것 보다, United Nations 에 관련된 대학원 과정을 설강하는 것이 더 좋다고 생각 합니다. 한국을 비롯한 다른 나라의 학생들이 학위를 받을 수 있고, 그로 인해 중부 대학교가 더 잘 알려지게 될 것이기 때문입니다.
